Our Client had the requirement to liquefy 800 tones per day of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from a large fertilizer plant near Redwater, AB as part of the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line project, the first major carbon capture storage program in the province.
The purpose is to liquefy CO2 emissions from this plant so it can be transported via a 240-km pipeline to conventional oil recovery projects throughout central Alberta where it will be injected into oil reservoirs to provide enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
The CO2 is brought into the facility and immediately sent to inlet condensers and then to inlet separation to separate the bulk of the free water in the stream. The CO2 will then be compressed by 6 stage integrally geared centrifugal compressors and be moved into the dehydration plant, to get rid of the remaining water, after which the refrigeration unit Startec designed will liquefy it so that it can be pumped into the carbon trunk line.
Startec manufactured a 18'W x 30'L skid mounted CO2 liquefaction & NH3 refrigeration compressor package, using one (1) 100% refrigeration compressor. Our design includes:
