Significant Environmental Challenges
The Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Adam X-1 Hala Early Production Facility project involved extremely precise dewpoint control for a site with significant environmental challenges.
The location has high ambient temperatures ranging from 55-120 °F (12-49 °C). The site is prone to earthquakes, flooding and high winds.
Liquid Petroleum Gas Recovery
The client required a very tightly defined liquid composition to be recovered from a 15 MMSCFD sweet gas flow and a sour produced liquid feed
The Pakistan Liquid Petroleum Gas Recovery project demonstrates Startec's proven capabilities in:
- Creating precise, high capacity dewpoint control plants / propane refrigeration facilities
- Engineering solutions to accommodate extreme conditions: severe temperatures, high winds, earthquake-prone locations
- Developing modular components to fit compact overseas shipping containers
- Designing, building and commissioning international projects
Equipment
- 2 - 400 HP Propane Refrigeration Trains
- Gas Exchangers & Low Temperature Separator
- LPG Production Train
- Two Distillation Towers:
- De-ethanizer Tower - Diameter 24 inches, Height 90 feet
- De-butanizer Tower Diameter 36 inches, Height 60 feet - Liquids Sweetening Tower Diameter 14 inches, Height 40 feet
- Glycol injection system
- PLC control system to control and monitor the complete dewpoint plant
Engineering & Design Factors
- High capacity propane refrigeration plant required to achieve client's exact liquid composition parameters in high ambient temperature environment
- Structural design to withstand earthquakes, flooding and high winds
- All components designed to fit compact containers to allow for truck, rail and sea transport, and to minimize the client's overseas shipping costs
Fabrication
- The plant was fabricated as a modular system to balance shipping costs and freight flexibility
Operational Issues
- The equipment and control system design was based on two production cases, allowing sufficient flexibility to cater for the significant turndown between the initial and final phases
