Corporate Controller

For more than 35 years, Startec has been designing, building and maintaining the mission critical compression and refrigeration systems that drive production and profitability for:

  • Oil & Gas Industry - for production, processing and transmission of natural resources
  • Industrial Refrigeration - for ground freezing, cold storage, food processing and meat packing
  • Recreational Ice Facilities - for hockey, curling and ice skating.

Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Startec is an essential support service for major industrial facilities and serves clients throughout North America and around the world. With service at the cornerstone of their business, Startec has the most knowledgeable and experienced service team in compression and refrigeration.

Currently, Startec is seeing a driven and dynamic individual for the role of Corporate Services Controller in Calgary, AB. The Corporate Services division provides shared services for two independent operating divisions, Compression and Process and Field Services. Accounting, Human Resources, IT management, Safety program and Purchasing are operated as central shared services and operate under the leadership of the Corporate Services Controller.

Responsibilities:

Within this pivotal position, you will be responsible for supervising and overseeing the corporate services group including managing up to 6 direct reports.

You will be responsible for the following:

Financial Accounting:

  • Internal & external information and financial reporting
  • Facilitating annual budgeting process and regular updates
  • Managing banking relationships
  • Cash management
  • Providing operating divisions with key financial and operational metrics to help drive growth and profitability Developing KPI's, performance metrics and providing feedback on actual results
  • As key member of the Senior Management Team, providing input into the Strategic planning process

Human Resources:

  • Overseeing payroll and benefits, policies and procedures, and corporate incentive plans

Safety:

  • Supervising our internal safety program

IT:

  • Managing the 3rd party service for the IT services

Purchasing, inventory and materials management:

  • Providing leadership to our corporate purchasing activities

Qualifications
This is an excellent opportunity for a financial leader with a Business Degree and strong accounting experience:

  • Accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) is essential, as is advanced accounting software and Excel skill proficiency
  • Strong background in cost accounting, project accounting is necessary, ideally with experience in both manufacturing and service industries
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Prior experience with KPI's and performance metrics to make an immediate impact on the operations of the company
  • Entrepreneurial, independent thinker who continually seeks out opportunities to make improvements and drive business
